Day two of three at Yuk’s in Halifax, and we have a bigger crowd than the night before and they’re all interested in laughing and having a good time, so we’re off to a great start. My set time comes, and I get through “Songs Age” and “Birthday Songs” and even my original song “Modern Maritimer” but as the song is nearing the end disaster strikes! A guitar string breaks! The G String! I try playing the next song but it’s just not working, so instead of trying to go on with it, I set it down and look out to the audience and say “Well, that’s not going to work, I’ll just do the rest of the set with Impressions…does everyone here like impressions?” and that was that, I did some impressions and finished the evening on that.
I felt like I screwed up big time, but people who were there said it was a great set and close friends of mine; Gerald Flemming and Allison Lynn complimented me on my set and said it was very slick and professional especially the way I handled the whole broken string thang. I’ll take their word for it, they’re both professional touring musicians and would know a thing or two.
